When Jes met with Ellie Laks, (founder of The Gentle Barn Foundation) an instant kinship was sparked. Besides sharing a mutual dedication to the rescue of abused and neglected animals, they both have exceptional cows that won their hearts a thousand times over. “Buddha” once part of a miniature cow breeding program, was rescued from slaughter by Ellie when she was one-year-old. Ten years later, she is the proud mascot for The Gentle Barn, welcoming visitors and acting as guardian to new arrivals. “Sweet Jane” is Jes’ latest addition, a ‘wet-calf’, orphaned when her mother went to slaughter; Jane became an instant star at Sun Horse Ranch, following the pack of dogs that follow Jes everywhere. Jes designed this Sweet Jane & Buddha Medallion to the likeness of her sweet baby cow, but in honor of all cows everywhere that have so much love to give, like “Buddha.”
